GME Refuses Safe-Ride-Home Reimbursement, UWHA Assumes Control of Program

Under the contract, the GME is required to provide reimbursements for residents who are "unable to safely get home at the end of or during his/her shift due to extreme fatigue, illness or the late hour.” This program - the Safe-Ride-Home program - is intended to provide residents a safe way to get home when dangerously fatigued, such as after working a 24+ shift. Unfortunately, the GME started denying reimbursement.

Antimicrobial Stewardship

This week at the MSAC meeting the antimicrobial stewardship team at UWMC gave a presentation on efforts being taken at the hospital to ensure we are all doing what we can to properly use antibiotics. This is a vital issue that we all have a part in. The antimicrobial sterwardship team has prepared tools to help us use this resource in the appropriate way such as the Antibiotic Reference Kit in the Online Clinical Care Advisories & Messages App (OCCAM).

Post-docs on the UW campus are working to form a union and we support them!

For residents and fellows, our overwhelming vote to form a union and the new contract we negotiated has led to big improvements in salary, stipends, and labor practices. Post-docs at UW are now striving for these same benefits too.

Welcome New Trainees!

The UWHA is happy to welcome the incoming trainees for the 2017-2018 year.
